Boss Polyurethane Sealant is particularly designed for sealing application in areas including Bus & Coach, Truck, Earth moving Equipments, Tractor, Forklift, OEM, Repair Auto After Markets also various other commercial and industrial vehicles. Further, it bonds a variety of material including FRP, GRP, timber, plywood, metals, particularly aluminium (including anodized components), sheet steel (including phosphated, chromated and zinc-plated components), coated metals and paint coatings (two-part systems), ceramic materials as well as plastics.

BOSS PU 25 polyurethane sealant is low modulus one-component moisture curing Class A polyurethane sealant. It cures into a flexible, durable and weather resistant elastomeric sealant that has very good adhesion to most construction and industrial materials. It can accommodate cyclic joint movement of 50% (+/-25%) of the joint width. It is recommended for use in moving expansion joints between precast concrete panels, brick and block work, granite, marble and sandstone, aluminum windows, FRP, metal, coated metal curtain walls and seams on timber, aluminum, U-PVC joinery, etc.

Uses of Boss PU 25 sealant

Boss PU 25 is a varsatile polyurethane sealant used for bonding and sealing.

Bonding: Boss PU 25 an bond effectively sheet metal, wood, frp, composites, Stainless Steel. Excellent for bonding metal to metal, steel to steel adhesive, best construction adhesive for metal.

Suitable substrate materials include timber, metals, particularly aluminium (including anodised
components), sheet steel (including phosphated, chromated and zinc-plated components), metal primers and paint coatings (two-part systems), ceramic materials and plastics.

Sealing: Boss PU 25 sealant is used extensively as a construction joint sealant for gap filling, sealing & waterproofing  of joints.

It is used as expansion joint sealant, control joint sealant, concrete joint compound, sealing concrete joints, sealant for precast concrete joints, concrete gap sealant, sealants for joints in buildings, flexible joint sealant, floor joint sealant, masonry joint sealant, crack and joint sealant, concrete to metal sealant.

How to use Boss PU 25 sealant ?

Material Preparation  – For successful bonding and sealing, substrates must be free of excess dust, dirt, moisture and oils. Clean substrate with a degreasing solvent. In some instances, slight abrasion of the substrate surface may be necessary to ensure proper adhesion. 

Application – Maximum joint width should not exceed 1-1/4” and should be no deeper than 3/8”. For greater depth use a foam backer rod to within 3/8” of desired surface level. Sealant should be applied by “pushing” the bead ahead of nozzle
forcing the sealant into the joint ensuring adequate contact with all joint surfaces. Tooling of material needs to be completed within 40 minutes of application. Excess
sealant should be removed with a clean dry cloth within the tooling time while still uncured. If joint has been masked, masking material should be removed immediately after sealant application as cured sealant is difficult to remove.

Storage/Shelf Life – Boss PU 25 sealant:

The storage and application of Polyurethane sealant affect the shelf life and usage. The shelf life of all given is understood to be 12 months from the date of manufacturing. It is to be kept in temperature from 5°C to
35°C.
In the specific case of India, since practically the temperature rises up to 45°C to 50°C, the sealant is usable. Due to extreme heat or humidity, the skin formation time of the same may be little faster in those specific conditions. Although, the sealant can still be used with effectiveness.

Polyurethane Sealant VS Silicone Sealant

The two most often used sealants on the market are polyurethane sealants, and silicone sealants. Each falls into the category of an elastomeric material and are used to fill gaps and keep water and air out. They also both allow for expansion and contraction, and can allow for up to 50 percent movement. Despite their similarities, these two kinds of sealants also have significant differences that make them each suitable for different types of applications. Here’s a closer look at both silicone sealants, and polyurethane sealants.

Chemical constituents

PU and silicone sealants are drastically different chemically. This difference means each material will break down differently over time, and react differently in different environments. Polyurethane is an organic material, while silicone is inorganic. That’s important because when subjected to UV light from the sun, inorganic materials will be less reactive than organic materials. Over time, the polyurethane sealant will revert to its natural state and change properties, which will render it ineffective for sealing the area.

Total life

The chemical differences make the lifespan of each sealant quite different. Typically, you can expect a polyurethane sealant to last 5 to 10 years, and the exact lifespan will depend on how much sunlight it was subjected to, the changes in temperature, and how often it needed to expand and contract. Silicone sealants will typically last at least 20 years, and many manufacturers even offer 20 year warranties to protect you in case your sealant wears out faster.

Cost

While silicone sealants typically about twice as long as polyurethane sealants, they also typically cost about twice as much. However, the initial cost of materials isn’t the only consideration to make when calculating the true cost. You’ll also want to factor in labor costs. Each type of sealant takes about the same amount of time to install, but you’ll need to install polyurethane sealants at least one additional time before the silicone sealant wears out. So, in reality, labor cost for polyurethane sealants is at least double that of silicone sealants.

Changing between polyurethane and silicone

If you have already applied a polyurethane sealant, or have inherited a structure with polyurethane sealant, and want to transition to silicone sealant, you’ll first need to ensure that all existing polyurethane material is completely removed. If part of the polyurethane sealant remains when you apply the silicone sealant, it can cause the new sealant to deteriorate faster than normal and destroy the seal. In most cases, it costs much more to replace a failed sealant than it would to install an effective one in the first place, so take your time to do the job right.
